Why study this course?
About 3 million people in the UK work in health and social care, that is equivalent to 1 in every 10 people. Demand for both health and social care is likely to continue to rise due to the ageing population, so it is sure to continue to play a key role in UK society. The demand for people to fill these vital jobs will continue to increase. Our rationale is to provide a fluid and dynamic knowledge rich KS4 and KS5 curriculum. This course will help learners to develop key transferable skills and knowledge such as self-evaluation and research skills.

We ask that all students achieve 4 GCSE at Grade 4 (or level 2 pass) or higher.
What will I learn on this course?
Units range from analysing Human Lifespan Development, Working in Health and Social Care, Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs and Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care.
Examinations & Coursework
This course consists of 4 units across 2 years, equivalent in size to one A Level. 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external. Mandatory content (83%) and External assessment (58%).

Enrichment opportunities
The course includes a Unit on work experience, students complete 100 hours over 2 years in a chosen Health and Social Care work placement setting focusing on core skills and application of knowledge. Trips (e.g. sixth form visits from the True Life Conference, local GP’s, Nurses, Occupational Therapists; visits to Leighton Hospital, including an opportunity to interview members of staff on their roles and responsibilities within the hospital).
